PREFACE - About ALOHA Workshop -

While the relation between linguistic knowledge and segmental perception has been extensively investigated, we need further research on the suprasegmental prosodic features. In this workshop, we would like to discuss issues concerning prosodic perception and its relationship to second language acquisition.
The workshop will cover three lines of research. The first line concerns how to detect the arrival of new events by way of the auditory model. The second line is how to approach real stimuli, in particular, speech and music. The third line is the problem of second language acquisition. We are aware that the topics may seem rather divergent, and that it might become difficult to focus discussions.
However, our hope is that the friendly atmosphere of Hawaii will allow for a rich, diverse, and "tropically" fruitful workshop. This is why we have named it the ALOHA (every kind of love) workshop.
